Where to eat in Greenpoint, Brooklyn

We are being fans of Greenpoint, Brooklyn and think it’s one of the best areas for some underrated restaurants - from the #1 tacos in the city to a fire bakery. After Madison spent a few months living over there, we feel equipped to tell you the best places to eat in Greenpoint.

Restaurants

Paulie Gee’s Slice Shop & Paulie Gee’s

Lunch, Dinner only for Paulie Gee’s

Their slice shop is next level and makes a really great classic New York slice along with thick grandma pies like their hellboy - a sesame seeded crust with pepperoni and hot honey.

Or down the street you can eat at their sit down restaurant serving Neapolitan pies.

Taqueria Ramierz

Lunch, Dinner

Truly our number 1 tacos in NYC and worth waiting for (seriously there will very likely to a line). Their shop feels like something you’d find in Mexico City.

Or try their al pastor burger down the road at The Mallard Drake - video link!

Madre

Dinner, Brunch

Madre is such a Greenpoint hidden gem. The chef worked at The Nomad and Estela but the menu feels locally sourced yet full of flavor.

What to get: Cornbread madelines, fluke ceviche, octopus, croquettas, seasonal souffle (ours was roasted banana)

Bernie’s

Dinner - no reservations

A favorite of ours!! Kind of like an upscale Applebee’s (we mean that in the best say), they don’t take reservations so go early and put your name down. We love everything about Bernie’s, it’s cozy and has a top 5 burger for us.

What to get: burger, mozz sticks, caesar, ribs, baked clams, chicken dishes, sundae

Di & Di

Lunch, Dinner

This place is serving super traditional Vietnamese pho and banh mi (and we’ve been to Vietnam ;) ). But actually their food is fire, however, warning you the staff can be quite fussy and sassy.

Frankel’s Deli

Breakfast, Lunch

She is just stunning…the signature pastrami egg and cheese from Frankel’s (from the Bernie’s team). You also have to go for lunch to try the BLT or turkey sandwich, you will not be disappointed.

Stowaway

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

WOW. The biscuit sandwiches are phenomenal at this southern inspired cafe (the chef is from North Carolina so think low-country fare). And do not skip their pancakes at breakfast or happy hour oysters at dinner.

Karczma

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

You may not realize it but Greenpoint is pretty well known for their Polish population and food. We love Karczma because they have $16 lunch special which includes A LOT of food.

Pierozek

Breakfast, lunch, dinner

Another wonderful Polish restaurant focusing on pierogi and that just got on the Michelin guide. They are making innovative flavors like blueberry or japeleno but we were partial to the Classic Ruskie.

Such a hidden gem with extremely affordable lunch options for $7. Absolutely love the flavor of their chicken and heard the chicharron is delicious.

WenWen

Dinner

Wenwen is by no means underrated but they make authentic Taiwanese food. If you’re lucky you’ll be able to grab one of their 5 BDSM chickens (you need to get there at 4:30PM and order right away). But no worries, the fried chicken is great too.

Rule of Thirds

Brunch, Dinner

So you may recognize this iconic Japanese souffle pancake with honey maple butter, and for good reason, it’s delicious. You go to Rule of Thirds to switch up your standard brunch eggs and get one of these babies and a katsu sandwich.

Glasserie

Dinner, Brunch

Easy dinner spot with great apps like grilled bread and fresh veggies. It’s a little overpriced but nice if you sit inside.

FORMA PASTA FACTORY

Lunch, Dinner

This is one of the most affordable places for a superb bowl of pasta in Greenpoint which is ~$14. Grab some pasta and eat it in McCarren.

What to get: pippette sausage ragu, mafaldine with shrimp, focaccia, bolognese

Chez Ma Tante

Brunch, Dinner

This place is famous for their pan fried pancakes loaded in syrup and butter. They are great but can be inconsistent - what we really love here is their egg sandwich.

El Pinguino

Dinner

We’re very into this Spanish seafood bar serving all kinds of raw bar, conservas, and natural wines - truly a vibe.

Bakery/Coffee Shop

ACRE

Breakfast, Lunch

ACRE is a little slice of Japan in Greenpoint and is located near “Little Tokyo” with a surplus of Japanese restaurants. They make a perfect matcha but you’ll see most table with a bento box on it, get the karage or miso salmon.

Radio Bakery

Breakfast, Lunch, Snack

Opened in Spring 2023, they’ve had lines ever since, likely because they are related to popular sister restaurant, Rolo’s, in Ridgewood, Queens.

What to get: any croissant (preferably a seasonal flavor), pretzel cheddar bear claw, cookie, focaccia or whatever stands out to you!

Peter Pan Donuts

Breakfast, Dessert

This shop is a Greenpoint staple that has been around for years and is still family owned. They are famous for their donuts, and you may not realize that they have a great breakfast program that we hear is pretty affordable.

Bakeri

Breakfast, Lunch, Snack

Bakeri is popular across Greenpoint and Williamsburg for their cinnamon roll, seasonal pastries, and sourdough. You can also stop by for lunch and try a sandwich, soup or salad.

  • Achillie’s Heel - divey, not just known for their drinks but their food is suprisingly impressive

  • Little Rascal - nicer bar with food to pair

  • Bar Americano - a quintessential Greenpoint bar with cocktails but bites to pair

  • Three’s Brewing - go here for a beer or sour and pair with Greenpoint Fish and Lobster’s pop up they are offering out of Three’s

  • Torst - natural wine and good vines

  • Pencil factory - where to go if you want to dance on elevated surfaces and scream Britney Spears

  • Ponyboy - fun dancing and DJ spot

  • 21 Greenpoint - great to sit outside and people watch with a glass of wine and their focaccia
